Chatroullette is a hybrid of speed dating and hot or not (well pervert or not!), via video and IM chat, at least that’s my take on it. Watch Casey Neistat’s video study (above) to get an indepth view. Or, of course, play for yourself. In my 5 minute foray into this world I got seriously ‘nexted’, probably didn’t help that I was browsing with my shirt off (I had just woken up).. maybe there should be an etiquette guide: i.e. appropriate lighting, clothing and so forth. That said, the beauty of this, is the web at it’s most raw – warts, perverts and all!

First knowledge via Bri.

NEWSFLASH: a Chatrouletter just pointed their webcam at CNN and showed me the Hawaii Tsunami happening. Just checked Twitter and it’s going off… thoughts going out to those in danger.

Using Google Latitude a team of people ran around San Fran and, via their mobile phones, positioned themselves to spell out my name – viewable on this Google map.

Of course that’s not strictly true. Its a ‘viral’ from the chaps at Google to showcase Latitude – real time positioning of friends on a map. You can make your own ‘spoof’ video here. Its really quite convincing the first time round.

Thanks to Tom (creative director & a brand defender at Google) in London for the initial surprise.

Google Latitude is coming soon to Australia (the iPhone, Android etc.) – no idea when… that’s just what the mobile link says when I click it.

Addictive TV give the Iron Man movie their particular style of remix mashup bootleg that they’re famous for.

I know that New Line Cinema got them to mixup Shoot Em Up and Snakes On A Plane [below]. But I wonder if Paramount commissioned them to do Iron Man?

Of course the marketers wet dream is that you get a ‘user generated reaction’. Your audience takes the initiative to cut-and-paste-and-remix your content creating something more real than the art directed client approved version. Those clips then go viral and become the media for your film. That said commissioning a crew like Addictive TV takes it to a whole new level and hopefully throws down the gauntlet for other creatives to have fun with the clips…

I want to see great content like this becoming the trailer for the film in the first place, rather than being an extention or addition to the usual formats.

I totally relate to this. Hardly using FaceBook anymore, in fact, it outright annoys me most of the time. It has no relevance now I’ve got over the honeymoon of connecting to everyone I knew. Maybe if I did a cull of people that were picked up in the initial frenzy it would become more relevant again… but its just painful and time consuming to housekeep your account.

33:25
(heladosyoscars): Daniel Plainview: his milkshake brings all the boys in the yard
34:21
(LCosgrove): Surprised they didn’t use “milkshake” for Day-Lewis’s clip.
34:27
(sethhurley): Insert milkshake-drinking oscar joke here
34:36
(etanowitz): milkshake! milkshake!
34:43
(Ascalon): Daniel drinks your milkshake!
34:47
37:29
(slfashionista): Kind of hoping Daniel Day Lewis was going to make his speech: I DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE… I DRINK IT UP! Alas. Not to be. But that would pown.
37:57
(SarahWurrey): Hmmm, Mr. Milkshake’s performance was a little over the top for me..I prefer acting that shows more nuance…but oh well, Clooney’ll live.
38:19
(theadamo): I’m going to drink your milkshake.
38:27

Finally we’re live! the time it takes to develop within MySpace is quite astonishing… baring in mind the speed at which the online social world moves. We’ve been working on Lion Nathan’s McKenna Bourbon brand for sometime and our strategy this year was to compliment their online presence with a destination in MySpace called The Urban Spirit. It allows audiences that meet the promotional girls within a bar, to connect with them online.

WHATS ABOVE & BELOW?; we had a right laugh creating the content shown – which users can embed within their MySpace profile pages (or anywhere else for that matter).

ABOVE; are stop-frame video invites shot by the SOPP Collective (1 of 2, there will be 4 eventually) that allow you to talk up an event and invite your mates by placing it in your profile page. The music for the clips has been sourced with the help and advice of Future Classic. If you look closely I’m the drummer!!

BELOW; upoad a photo – choose a category and see what everyone else thinks… Rate My! – you know the score, ‘hot or not’ style app that you can embed in your own page.

Its early days, but I’ll update with stats on how the site progresses. Watch this space.
