As the iPad gets closer to arrival publishers seem to be flexing their digital prowess. The first video shows Adobe working with WIRED on how their magazine will come to life on a plethora of upcoming tablets and iPad like devices. Then the video below shows a number of Penguin titles brought to life for the iPad. From Spot the dog, showing that it’s child’s play to have fun with the loveable character, to a D&K Stargazer book on astronomy that makes all of us an expert on the night sky.

It must be said that I was a bit underwhelmed with the launch of the iPad – I wanted more. But I’m now getting pretty excited about its release and the positive upheaval its going to cause in publishing, education, and accessibility to information and knowledge. If Apple can revolutionise reading – like they did music – then we’ll all be better for it.

Undeniably one of the most innovative and creative uses of the web to date. Evident that technology didn’t get in the way – only enhanced and took it further.

Tate Tracks by Fallon London. My favourite art space, the Tate Modern, reaching a new audience through the intersection of art and music. Gold. Remember observing this from afar.

Mentos intern campaign. With a media budget of $0 see how BBH New York created an idea and execution that became more than the media ever could have been… (be good to know if the original media budget was merged into the build?) archive website here.

…and if you think the soundtrack is familiar… well it is. Remember the rescue scene from Life Aquatic? (its below) and the track is called Ping Island.

Tyson’s timing couldn’t be better – I’ve just come back from lunch at Google where I saw a demo of the gPhone – in particular seeing how the camera, Google Maps, and wiki content can be integrated as the user aims the phones camera at different buildings. The possibilities are very apparent.

…and from another ‘video finding video’ search, I re-found:

Prometeus: The Media Revolution
I’m sure this is on my blog somewhere already, but good to get it on the list. In the way that Googlezon is the view of a possible future – so is this – in the year 2027

Need your help in finding more.

Last year I started teaching the ADMA Digital Certificate in Marketing thanks to an introduction from Mike at Profero.

14 Tuesday nights later, great guest speakers, the marking of 28 exams and presentations – I’m doing it all again.

As you can imagine keeping the course up-to-date is a challenge in its own right. So we’re currently reviewing and updating the content. Seeing as I have an audience of digerati [and my Mum] I felt that you might be able to help. We try to use ‘rich media’ wherever possible, videos, online demo’s, case-studies etc.

To follow is a collection of videos that help explain the opportunity of digital. We’ve shown some before and there’s others that I’ll definitely consider for this semester – but I want to make sure I’m not missing some gems? – all help much appreciated!

ps. any prospective guest speakers out there (search, mobile, usability, email, creative, analytics, databases, social etc.) ? raise your hand!

1. Googlezon, Epic 2015
I believe this dates back to 2004. A view of the future that’s already ahead of time.

2. Did you know?
Jen Wilson sent this round yesterday. Great summation of our insignificance in the emerging world and the significance of embracing new ways now. Certainly gets you pumped for action.

3. The break up
Its and old one, but a classic. Spells out the fact that the consumer has changed.

4. Inspiration, anyone? (the sequel to ‘The Break Up’)
If you work in an ad agency – surely you can relate to this. BIGGER LOGO

5. A short history of marketing
Only recently found this. From the early days of advertising to the sensory overload of today. This animation spells out exactly why marketing has to change.

6. The machine is us/ing
Probably the best explanation of Web 2.0 there is.

7. An anthropological introduction to YouTube
Its almost an hour long but worth the time if you have it.

8. The marketing of Radiohead
Ian Tait put this together. I like it because it shows how he reconsiders Radiohead [who's music he didn't like] based on the way they approached the launch of In Rainbows and the subsequent marketing of the band since they’ve left their record label.

Mr Armano, can I call you David?
David [amongst other things] creates diagrams that simplify this quagmire of information that we try to make sense of on a daily basis. These ‘informational graphics’ make the complex simple and provide [me] a way to frame my thinking. The following diagrams aren’t in any particular order. They’ve been chosen: either because they make me laugh, or they help my brain give birth to ideas and new ways to approach a challenge.

I found them on flickr, there’s currently 78 visual thinking diagrams

… and David, thanks for the hard work and the fact that you share the way you think.

1. Jump aboard the social media train!!

3. But I’m an expert!

So I joined SlideShare yesterday to share a pres that I put together for an APG training session.

I’ve used the service for research but had yet to share anything. Within an hour I’d received an email from the SlideShare team saying that my pres was to be featured on their homepage. I was thrilled. Is this normal (I thought) so I popped the question to the Twitterverse… Katie Chatfield was kind enough to respond. She’d had the same experience.

That said the benefits of being on the homepage have been great. Within a day I’ve had 90 views and one comment. Eight new people have started to follow me on Twitter (no its not spam). Rod Rakic even ‘retweeted’ the presentation to David Armano and introduced me to the term ‘grokking this’ (wiki definition here).

What has been the most exciting of all is sharing my thoughts and interpretations with a wider audience. Not that I’m a stranger to this, but it resonates when you’re in a new channel, with a new set of eyeballs and opinions.

Back in the real world, one of the participants of the training session had this to say (via email);

I attended the B&T Digital Bootcamp the day before, and this workshop blew it out of the water – particularly in two main areas: knowledge of industry and trends, and practical ways to harness this for planners/advertisers.

Again a big thank you to Melanie Sweet and Gabi Scott from Google, and Jenifer Wilson from Lean Forward. For making the session complete.

Yesterday I presented at the APG (Account Planning Group) Australia. I was asked by one of our planners to put together a session on digital planning. I felt that the session needed to cover how to plan for today’s fragmented media landscape, the tools that can help us with insights and what we can expect next.

What better team players to get together than Melanie Sweet and Gabi Scott from Google, and Jenifer Wilson from Lean Forward.

My presentation, above, acted as an intro to the session and presented a way to approach digital strategy for this advancing media landscape. Next was Google, showing us how to best use Google Trends, Google Insights for Search and Google Ad Planner for insights and understanding audiences. Jennifer Wilson then took us through Web 3.0 and beyond. Showing us the logical advancement of the digital medium and how we’ll instinctively demand and want these services.

The format was like a ‘dinner party’, a long table with everyone intermingled, which at first threw me… but ultimately worked really well at keeping the session interactive. I think everyone got a lot out of it, well I certainly did. Feel free to comment on the pres, I’d welcome feedback.
