73mph jet cyclist
Bob Maddox bolted a dual-exhaust pulse jet engine to the side of an ordinary bicycle, donned a leather jacket and helmet and then held on tight as he peeled off a 73-mph run down a deserted back road. Found these great pictures and article on WIRED

Glowing Cities Under a Nighttime Sky
Wiggly glow strings inform the sky. Shadowed wing. Journey to another land… @pablojeffress started following me on Twitter. Then I read his blog and then I saw this. Then I felt compelled to share. See more of Ettubrute’s (created the clip) timelapse work.

Batman’s boat on Sydney harbour?
I kayaked from Rose Bay to Watsons Bay on Sunday. On the return journey we were approached by this beast… “WTF is that?” my friend and I announced. Batman’s boat it is not… it turns out this is the super boat used for Earthrace. In June 2008, the amazing Earthrace vessel set a new world [...]
Scanned photos from Chile 1994
I’ve recently reconnected with an old friend, Tom Kay (top pic, far right), via an article in Monocle magazine (as you do!). For your interest the article was about the company his behind Finisterre Technical Apparel based in the UK. Anyway, back in 1994 Tom and I travelled to Chile with Operation Raleigh (now called [...]

MIFFed
It was my birthday last week and as a surprise Rach flew me to Melbourne for MIFF. MIFF stands for Melbourne international film festival. I forgot how much I love Melbourne. Intimate bars, incredible food and interesting individuals from all walks of life. Didn’t do nearly enough, but we had a good go. Saw just [...]

Who needs a news channel when you have flickr?
msexplorer2 Originally uploaded by keep left. Image capture from one of the webcams onboard the Nordnorge, a couple of minutes after SkyNews reported the existance of the webcams. Shortly after this, the Nordnorge appeared to turn such that all three cams were pointing away from the action. The Associated Press grabbed this image also and [...]

Activity Club : Manly Dam
The most active members of the Activity Club finally broke out of the non-action of winter. Tyres pumped, chains tensioned and minds focussed we gave sail from Circular Quay to Manly, where we’d take on the mighty Manly Dam!

Canyon swing with camera strapped to my hand
Whilst in New Zealand for New Year, I made the decision to do a Canyon Swing. I’ve always been keen to do a bungy jump, but over the years I’ve become slightly hesitant about it – mainly due to the prospect of my eyes popping out and other horror stories I’ve been told. Anyway, the [...]

thank you… Originally uploaded by benhamin. To the hundred’s (hi Mum!) of people that read my ramblings, you may have noted a decline in inspiration and linkage. Well I’ve been on a bit of an adventure to NZ, hooking up with a great friend Titus and my new best friend Carrie (his love). Mountains were [...]

New Soft Helmet Turns Hard in Crash
Fabric called d3o (dee-three-oh) becomes rigid on impact, protecting the wearer. A Swiss company called Ribcap are planning to execute it in a number of snowsport applications. Read more about it on Live Science. My stab-proof, ballistic nylon parka (by Vexed Generation) would be perfectly complimented by a d3o hat!

AFRICA@home
Remember SETI@home? Well this works on the same principles of distributed computing, but instead of trying to decipher extraterrestrial communications, the connected computing power aims to study the causes, distribution, and control of malaria. Its not ready yet, but CERN and others are working hard to get it finished, if you have the skills and [...]
