I’ve recently reconnected with an old friend, Tom Kay (top pic, far right), via an article in Monocle magazine (as you do!). For your interest the article was about the company his behind Finisterre Technical Apparel based in the UK.
Anyway, back in 1994 Tom and I travelled to Chile with Operation Raleigh (now called [...]

It was my birthday last week and as a surprise Rach flew me to Melbourne for MIFF.
MIFF stands for Melbourne international film festival. I forgot how much I love Melbourne. Intimate bars, incredible food and interesting individuals from all walks of life.
Didn’t do nearly enough, but we had a good go. Saw just [...]

Shortly after this, the Nordnorge appeared to turn such that all three cams were pointing away from the action. The Associated Press grabbed this image also and used it with [...]

The most active members of the Activity Club finally broke out of the non-action of winter. Tyres pumped, chains tensioned and minds focussed we gave sail from Circular Quay to Manly, where we’d take on the mighty Manly Dam!

Anyway, the Canyon [...]

Remember SETI@home? Well this works on the same principles of distributed computing, but instead of trying to decipher extraterrestrial communications, the connected computing power aims to study the causes, distribution, and control of malaria.
Its not ready yet, but CERN and others are working hard to get it finished, if you have the skills and want [...]

I try to cycle to work as often as I can (2-3 times a week)…
Sydney is a beautiful place to live, and lends itself to outdoor escapades – however the majority of drivers are on another planet - I believe that the perception of me riding a bike is the fact that ‘I can’t [...]

But it is next to public toilets in the middle of the outback.

This is nuts, true adventure stylee: Fabien Cousteau (son of the great Jaques) has built a Great White Shark Submarine.
I originally read about it in the National Geo Adventure magazine, but there’s a good article on Wired too.
There’s just enough room to get a diver inside, then you swim around with Great Whites [...]
