When I first moved to Bondi collecting furniture from the street was the only way I could furnish my place. You’d see me carrying random items up the street at all hours of the day – seizing the opportunity when I could. With the comings and goings of the local inhabitants it wasn’t hard and you often found some gems. Even electrical stuff with stickers saying they still worked. I’d always wonder how many owners an item might have had. Blu Dot’s experiment goes some way to explore that culture and I applaud them. I like the chairs too.

It was my birthday last week and as a surprise Rach flew me to Melbourne for MIFF.

MIFF stands for Melbourne international film festival. I forgot how much I love Melbourne. Intimate bars, incredible food and interesting individuals from all walks of life.

Didn’t do nearly enough, but we had a good go. Saw just two films in the end; Ben X, arresting film about bullying, autism and the strength of anonymous personas. Then there was Donkey Punch, lookup the meaning, everything goes ‘pete tong’ after the punch as twenty somethings deal with misadventure.

Ate amazing tapas at Mavida. Japanese at Chocolate Buddha and breaky in Block Arcade. Enjoyed Sofitel & views of the city. 36hrs with lots of memories.

(this is a first post from the iPhone Wordpess App, so will add links later)

“This evening at 10:00 pm dr.d hit a billboard bang opposite the Brit awards, the British music industry’s annual self-congratulatory love-fest. For all their talk of fair trade, presumably Chris Martin and the other boys in Coldplay do not mind performing at a heavily policed event sponsored by Mastercard from which the people who actually buy their CDs are excluded. They also do not seem to object to having their gigs and records promoted by Clear Channel, a company which now pretty much has a monopoly in the promotion of recordings and the staging of events….”

Look I know I should be writing my own impression of the stuff that inspires me, but I’m still in holiday mode – forgive.

So, there’s a kid called Piero who’s incredibly cool…so cool that he created loads of street sign manipulation stickers as part of a school project (some of you may know how obsessed I am with street signs!). He’s called the project Urban Chaos and he’s made an excellent job of it so far. Really looking forward to seeing where this project leads. I can imagine a site where people contribute to a database of photos of manipulated signs from all over the world. Is this a dream we all share or is it just mine?!

“A silent universe that slips silently by us, all the time, every day. By trying to break these relationships between these humanless and powerful symbols, giving a little more life has completely changed our visual and sentimental perception of signs.” Amen to that.

Massive respect to Ektopia for the words (above) and the link.
